Islands in the Boknafjorden

The Boknafjord is the largest fjord in the Norwegian Rogaland. Its name comes from the island and municipality located at its mouth Bokn.

The Boknafjord extends far inland and off the North Sea protected by the peninsula Tungeneset in Stavanger and Karmøy near Haugesund. The radius of the fjord is 20 kilometers. In its interior, there is an extensive archipelago, which Rennesøy is the largest island. The most famous branch of the fjord is the superior far to the east Lysefjord, with its imposing Fjellmassiven Preikestolen and Kjerag.

From the North Sea it is shielded so that its east side is one of the best known fruit growing areas in Norway. The time of the German Emperor Wilhelm II introduced northern German varieties ( Altes Land) be further cultivated.

Importantly, the Schnellweg Rennfast, Stavanger and Haugesund is connected by the European Route 39, a remarkable engineering feat of underwater tunnels and bridges that connects the formerly secluded islands to the urban centers of Western Norway. The fjord and the eastern Fjellmassiv shared the Rogaland in North and Südrogaland. So this landscape is still denoted by the single name " Ryfylke ".

Adjacent or in the fjord communities are located Kvitsøy Rennesøy, Finnøy, Tysvær, Bokn and Karmøy.
