Boland-Amendment

The Boland Amendment was a 1982 bill passed by the U.S. Congress Act. It prohibited any further U.S. financial and military assistance to the CIA-backed Nicaraguan Contra rebels. The U.S. government under Ronald Reagan led the help nevertheless continued, and the CIA devoted himself henceforth to illegal means of financing. In 1986, the discovery of these processes to a scandal that became known as the Iran - Contra affair.

It was named after the democratic politician Edward Boland ( 1911-2001 ).
