Bolken is a municipality in the district water office of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Bolken is located on 496 m above sea level. M., 10 km east of the main town Canton Solothurn ( straight line ). The village is located on a hill west of the Önzberges, south of the depression in the Inkwilersees, Solothurn in the southern Plateau.

The area of ​​2.1 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the moraine in the outer water office, which was formed by the glacial Rhône glacier. The communal land extends from the lower forest (up to 473 m above sea level. M. ) to the southeast of the formerly marshy level with the Inkwilersee up on the hill of Bolken, on the north of Aeschi with 503 m above sea level. M. is reached the highest point of the municipality. This hill with the corridors and Tägermoos Turbenmoos forms the western continuation of the Önzbergs. The Western part of the Inkwilersees and half of the islet belonging to Bolken. Population

With 564 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Bolken one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 95.1 % are German, 1.8 % French-speaking and 1.2 % speak Albanian (as of 2000). The population of Bolken amounted in 1850 to 230 residents in 1900 to 265 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population fluctuated constantly in the range of 250 to 280 inhabitants. Only since 1980, a significant increase in population was recorded.

Economy

Bolken was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including an operation of the computer science industry. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions of Solothurn and Herzogenbuchsee.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the Solothurn region. The nearest links to the A1 ( Bern- Zurich ) is located approximately 7 km from the town center.

On 1 June 1857, the railway line from Herzogenbuchsee was taken to Solothurn in operation; Inkwil the station was only slightly outside the municipal area. The for some time disused track is reactivated today, but will not be driven by regional trains. The municipal area is under crossed by Önzbergtunnel, which was opened in 2004 as part of Rail 2000. By bus to the BSU, which serves the route from Solothurn to Herzogenbuchsee, Bolken is connected to the network of public transport.

History

The territory of Bolken been inhabited since very early, which could be detected by traces of settlement from the Neolithic on the island in Inkwilersee. The first written mention of the village took place only in 1429 under the name Bollikon. Later, the names Bollikofen ( 1465 ) published, Bolliken ( 1469 ) and Bolckhen ( 1584). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Bollo. With a name ending in -ing (actually a drawing together of - igkofen ) it means as much as in the courts of the people of Bollo, where so-called relocated farms are meant.

In the Middle Ages Bolken was under the rule Aeschi. This came in 1466 at Solothurn and the Bailiwick of war Stetten was assigned. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) belonged Bolken during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the district Kriegstetten, which was officially renamed in 1988 in the district water office. Bolken does not have its own church; it belongs since 1684 to the parish Aeschi.
