Bolko II of Opole

Bolko II (also Boleslaw II of Opole, * 1300, † June 21, 1356 ) was Duke of Opole.

Life

Bolko II came to the Silesian Piast Opole branch of. He was the second of three sons of Opole Duke Bolko I.

Since Bolko the death of his father in 1313 was too young to take over the government, he was placed under the guardianship of his elder namesake brother Duke Bolko of Falkenberg, which transferred the regency for his youngest brother Albert of Strehlitz and the Duchy been. 1323 Bolko was declared of age and he himself took over the reign of power over his inherits piece Duchy.

In 1326 he married Elizabeth, daughter of Duke Bernhard Schweidnitzer. By this marriage he first approached the camp of the Polish king Władysław I the Elbow- to. On April 5, 1327, however, he paid homage to the Bohemian king John of Luxembourg. During his reign he promoted the economic development of his duchy. He forgave privileges to cities, promoted trade and crafts, let expand roads and ensure the safety of the travelers. His policy was successful and increased the prosperity of the Duchy considerably. In 1351 he bought Duke Wenceslas I of Legnica from the cities Pitschen and Cross Castle and acquired by Duke Boleslaw Slawentitz of Bytom.

Bolko was the Franciscan monastery Opole closely linked and determined the St. Anne's Chapel of the Convent of the tomb of the Dukes of Opole. There he was buried after his death in 1356.

Bolkos marriage to Elizabeth of Schweidnitz came from the sons

Wladislaus and Bolko followed their father as dukes, Henry was a canon at Breslau. The daughters went into monasteries.

After the death of his first wife on February 8, 1348 Bolko married again, but the identity of his second wife is not known. This marriage came from the daughter

  • Agnes Elizabeth, who married the Margrave Jobst of Moravia.
