History

Its history is closely connected to the noble family Snewlin - Bernlapp, a branch of the significant throughout Breisgau family Snewlin. When the family became extinct in 1837, the castle and the place came to the Barons of Holzing - Berstett whose descendants still inhabit the castle.

Mining

For a brief period (1938-1939) was mined on Bollschweiler district near Kuckucksbad on Schoenberg iron ore. This is not particularly extensive mining was but after those two years ( 1938: 28,144 t, 1939: 40 252 t) for a total funding of 69 396 t relisted. At this early adjustment was accounted for transport problems because the ore had to be transported by truck to elaborate in Bad. This transport prices were later significantly since the outbreak of war the fuel was scarce. Mining relics from this era are difficult to locate because of a temporary land consolidation in 2000.

In contrast, it can be shown for the Middle Ages extensive mining in the surrounding mountains, which was operated primarily on silver. Especially in the area of Birch Mountain was started this mining to explore. Very remarkable is the lucky circumstance that here the tunnels and shafts of the medieval mining have been preserved almost unchanged over the centuries and have not been impressed, as in many other mining areas in the Black Forest of neuzeitlichem mining.
