Bolt circle

The bolt circle (short LK ) indicates the number and spacing of the threaded holes for the wheels on automobiles. The number of holes determines the number of wheel bolts by which the tire can be mounted with the rim of the wheel hub. Depending on the car manufacturer and vehicle size are taken into account different bolt patterns and different numbers of screws.

Types

A bolt circle specification consists of specifying the number of holes and the diameter in mm. It is always the center of the hole or the stud is located on the hub of the vehicle on the hole circle. Thus, for example, a bolt pattern 4/100 four wheel bolts, the spacing is measuring 100 mm. The bolt circle diameter can be determined for any number of holes by measuring the vehicle from hole center to center of the wheel or hub center and doubled the distance. With an even number of holes you can also measure from a hole center to the opposite hole center. Commonly used with an odd number of holes only 3 and 5, all other types consist of an even number on the wheel bolts or studs. The use of a central nut pulls no hole circle according to specification.

Wheel centering

Furthermore ( hub ) plays the wheel centering or vehicle center hole a crucial role for selecting suitable components such as rims or spacers. Said hub is of circular projecting pin on which the wheel is pressed during assembly. It is used together with the wheel bolts as a supporting point of the wheel and prevent its centering effect a non-circular drive during operation. To determine this, the diameter is measured. His degree is dependent on the manufacturer and is specified together with the PCD, for example LK 4/108 or 65.1 LK 4x108 65.1.

Wheel sizes

To select a suitable rim for a vehicle, in addition to the bolt circle wheel offset and the allowed values of the car tire with the vehicle matching bearing capacity and speed index must be known. This data can be found in the vehicle documents or obtained from the vehicle manufacturer.
