Bolyai Prize

The International János Bolyai Prize for mathematics, named after János Bolyai, is awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Award for outstanding achievements in mathematics. The prize is awarded every five years, most recently in 2010. After 1910 the award rested until 2000. Winners will be selected among mathematicians who have published new and significant results within the past ten years.

The Academy donated the Bolyai Prize in 1902 for the 100th anniversary of its namesake. In 1905 he was first awarded. The resumption of the award ceremony after a long break, it was decided to contribute to the World Mathematical Year 2000 and the forthcoming 200th birthday Bolyai.

Eponymous Price

Since 2001 a further Bolyai Prize is awarded every two years, also from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. It is awarded in contrast to the International János Bolyai Prize for mathematics only to Hungarian scientists and is an interdisciplinary price, which extends to all natural sciences.
