History

The city rights were given to the place on 1 June 1912. Historically significant is the immigration of settlers from Europe, especially from Germany, from the early 1920s.

Due to the initiative of the Brazilian politician Faustino Assunção the city of Bom Despacho participated under the government Bernardes on colonization program of the Ministry of Agriculture. As part of this settlement program, the settlers agricultural land, housing and a variety of early aids were provided. The agricultural land consisted of two settlement areas, which were named after Brazilian politicians; Colônia David Camp Paulista and Colônia Álvaro da Silveira. Both areas are located in the outskirts of the city of Bom Despacho.

The settlement came as a large number of Germans that the German Embassy, a German school was talking on the settlement Colonia David Camp Paulista, where about 50 large families lived. Since the living conditions within the settlement partly corresponded to expectations ( unproductive soils, tropical diseases ), many settlers sought work in the cities. With the entry of Brazil in the Second World War in 1942 the German school was closed and it was forbidden to speak German, prompting many German settlement Colonia David Camp Paulista left. Today, in the two former settlements only a few descendants are to be found of Germans who continue to farm and speak the German language.
