Boma is a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

History

Boma was after Vivi was the second capital of the Congo Free State. From 1 May 1886 to October 31, 1929 Boma was the administrative seat of the Congo Free State and from 15 November 1908, the colony of the Belgian Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo ) before this status to Leopoldville (now Kinshasa), the present capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, lost.

Geography

The city is located on the north side of the river Congo in the province of Bas -Congo. The number of its inhabitants is about 350,000 people.

Since the telegraph network was not yet fully completed, a provisional Taubenpost line Boma Banana was operated around the year 1905 around, which met with acclaim from some philatelists.

Boma Boma is the seat of the diocese.
