Bommes

Bommes ( gascognisch: Bomas ) is a commune with 495 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine.

Location

Bommes is located about 45 km ( driving distance ) south-east of Bordeaux. The cantonal capital of Langon is located about 11 kilometers to the east.

Bommes is known for its excellent fine sweet white wines and is part of the growing area of Sauternes in Bordeaux. 381 hectares are available. By Bommes the small river Ciron whose cold spring water flows into the warmer waters of the Garonne and in the autumn mist forms, provides the best opportunities for the noble rot fungus Botrytis cinerea to increase the sugar content of the grapes flows.
