Hazel grouse

The hazel grouse ( Tetrastes ) are a species of bird from the family of pheasant -like ( Phasianidae ), which belongs to the order of Galliformes ( Galliformes ). Two species to the genus nowadays generally reckoned that occur in the Palearctic. Grouse are among the smallest grouse. They have very small beaks, they lack a conspicuous crest. Both types have 16 tail feathers and relatively small feet with unbefiederten toes.

Both species are occasionally found even with the Ruffed Grouse in the genus bonasus. Despite a superficial similarity, the two genera differ strikingly in their behavior. Grouse enter into a monogamous pair bond. They lack the distinctive Balzgefieder or the flashy Balzhandlungen, for the ruffed grouse is known.
