Bonifacio Ondó Edu

Bonifacio Ondó Edu ( † April 1969) was from 1963 to 1968 head of government of Equatorial Guinea.

Life

Bonifacio Ondó Edu belonged to the ethnic group of the catch. He founded the party, Movimento Nacional de Unidas de Guinea Ecuatorial ( Munge ). On December 15, 1963, he became head of government and remained there as its overseas province of Spain in 1964 gave autonomy.

In the elections in September 1968, he was beaten by his deputy and rival, Francisco Macías Nguema on the second ballot. With the independence of the country on October 12, 1968 President of Equatorial Guinea was the latter. In the concurrent parliamentary elections, the Munge 10 of the 35 seats reached.

As Macias Nguema was expanding its power, Edu went to Gabon into exile and was imprisoned after his return for "political crimes." According to official figures, he committed suicide while in custody, however, it was suspected murder. The same fate was shared other standing in opposition to the new president politician.
