Bonnie Blair

Bonnie Blair ( born March 18, 1964 in Cornwall, New York) is a former American speed skater.

Career

Bonnie Blair is with five gold medals at the Olympic Games one of the most successful speed skaters in history.

Blair won at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary gold over 500 meters and bronze over 1,000 meters. Four years later in Albertville she won then both 500 and 1,000 meters. This success could be repeated in Lillehammer in 1994. For the recent double success Blair was chosen by the magazine Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in the same year. She was also honored with the Athlete of the Year Award from the Associated Press.

She was supervised by former cyclists and triathletes John Howard as coach.
