Bonstorf Barrows

The cemetery Bonstorf is the residue of a much larger hill burial ground of the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. It is located east of the town Bonstorf, a district of Hermannsburg, in the district of Celle in Lower Saxony. Available are five closely adjacent grave hill to the cemetery.

The largest grave mound was originally located in a field and was excavated due to the threat situation in 1973 and reconstructed near the site. Interesting are the stone installations found in the hills. The hill was taken from a stone wreath.

Under the embankment there was a wooden chamber in which a man was buried in East-West direction. As grave goods, a clay pot and a Absatzbeil, a sword and a dagger of bronze were found.

In the northern border area of the hill a woman was buried in a stone warehouse, which was carrying two siebenrippige bangles and a headdress made of groups of small bronze plate tubes. Furthermore, lay on her breast a Radnadel of bronze. Most likely the woman was standing in your personal connection to the buried man.

The grave goods found are characteristic of the Early Bronze Age ( ie from about 1500 to 1200 BC ) in the Lüneburg Heath.
