Book of Rites

The Book of Rites (Chinese礼记/礼记, Pinyin Lǐjì or Xiaodai Liji小 戴 礼记) is one of the Five Classics, which are attributed to Confucius.

It describes social behavior and court ceremonies ( the Confucian rites ).

The Book of Rites is the most extensive of the canonical books. It is created only after Confucius and partly probably to be dated to the second century before our era, parts are on students of Confucius returned ( as the bibliography in Hanshu汉书·艺文志). It deals with the rules of etiquette, customs and traditions, for example, ancestor worship and for the conduct of the court. The reference to the " rites " (礼), or the " record of the rites " (礼记) does not necessarily relate to older texts in the Book of Rites, but can also earlier texts and text collections call - the reference is then often unclear.
