Booker T. Jones

Booker T. Jones ( born November 12, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee) is an American songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. He has become known as the frontman of the band Booker T. & the MG's.

Life

Jones played as a child, oboe, saxophone, trombone and piano at school. At sixteen, he played for Satellite Records baritone saxophone. During the time at Satellite Records (later Stax ) he met Steve Cropper know that a band member of Booker T. & the MG's was when they were formed in 1962. During high school he wrote the hit Green Onions.

In the following years he wrote the song with Eddie Floyd I've Never Found A Girl ( To Love Me Like You Do), Otis Redding 's I Love You More Than Words Can Say and William Bell for Albert King Born Under a Bad Signed 1970 Jones moved to California and ended the cooperation with Stax due to a dispute over the treatment of the band as an employee and not as a musician. In 1971, the last Booker T -. & -The- MG's album Melting Pot, in collaboration with Stax.

Jones produced three albums with his then-wife under the name of Booker T. & Priscilla, and also had success as a solo artist in 1981 with the song I Want You. He also produced Bill Withers ' debut album Just As I Am Willie Nelson and album Stardust.

Booker T. Jones played with Ray Charles, Neil Young and Natalie Merchant. In addition, he still plays with Booker T. & the MG's, and with his own band Booker T. Jones.

Jones was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and was awarded with the MG on 11 February 2007, a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement.

In 2009 he released his solo album Potato Hole, the first time without him the MG brought into the U.S. charts. He thus won a solo Grammy in the category Best Instrumental Album - Pop.

2009 Jones also collaborated with the American punk rock band Rancid, where he led the Hammond B3 organ plays in the song Up to No Good.
