Bookland

Book Country (English: Bookland ) is a word for a specific meaning of the first three digits of a 13-digit EAN.

The EAN of a book, which is identical to the 13-digit ISBN, is also called "Book Country EAN " or " Bookland EAN " as an EAN usually begins with the country of registration of the article.

All books are the three digits 978 or 979, regardless of the place of publication. Therefore, one speaks of these items in your country of books or book the country were registered. Only after these first three digits of the ISBN-13/EAN-13 follows an ISBN group number (1 to 5 digits) that specifies the Herausgabeort or the language area of the book in detail.

The combination of digits 979 will be awarded only since 1 January 2007. The background to this is the almost completely irritated speed range of the previous 10-digit ISBN ( ISBN-10 now called ). The 979 beginning of the 13-digit ISBN (ISBN - 13 or EAN -13) can be assigned as opposed to the period starting with 978 no longer an ISBN -10.
