Boone County (Arkansas)

The Boone County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Harrison. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the extreme north of Arkansas, bordered to the north Missouri and has an area of 1,559 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered by the following counties:

History

The Boone County was formed on April 9, 1869 from parts of Carroll County and the Madison County as 63 County and one of the first after the Civil War. It was named after Daniel Boone, an American pioneer and frontiersman who explored the so-called Wilderness Trail and the town of Boonesborough in Kentucky founded.
