In the shadow of life is a Hindi film directed by Prakash Arora of 1954, which was published in an abridged version in the GDR.

Action

Belu and her brother Bhola are children who have a hard time struggling with their fate: her father is in prison and her mother is dead of this, she forces them to beg their wicked aunt Kamla on the streets of Bombay. Only her best friend 's uncle John, a black marketeer, shows them still to live in dignity in the ghetto of the metropolis.

Then Bhola gets the idea with the begged money to buy a shoe shine equipment. After initial difficulties running the business, only her aunt may not notice it. When the aunt but then finds out she throws the kids out of the house. Although John gives them a place to stay but after his arrest, the children are left on their own. Then, when using even the monsoon, the shoeshine are no longer needed and the children threaten to starve.

Finally, the police came and took the two with him. Belu escaped into a train. In the train, Belu is picked up by a rich family, but can not forget her brother.

Now there Belu, as rich girl, the beggars money. Eventually she comes again with her brother together, which is then adopted by the rich family. Together they then live happier than ever.

The lyrics to the music by Shankar - Jaikishan wrote Shailendra, Hasrat Jaipuri and Saraswati Kumar Deepak.

Background

The actual management of the project was likely Kapoor and not with his assistant Arora.

Rattan Kumar had as a child actor also great success in two acres of land and Jagriti, yet it but did not manage to prove later in lead roles.
