Borandukht

Borane (also Buran, Puran or Purandokht; † end 631) a daughter of the Persian king Chosroes II was the first woman you ascended the throne of the Sassanid Empire. Her successor was for a short time as the second (and last) wife on the Sassanidenthron her sister Azarmedukht.

Actually a female succession was not provided in the Sassanid Empire, after the death of borane father Chosroes 628 but ruled almost anarchic -looking states in Persia. All subsequent rulers were able to keep to 632 for only a short time on the throne. The source tradition is very unreliable for this time, so that the reign of borane can not be determined exactly. Because of coin finds, but we now know with certainty that they actually ruled the empire for a while. She followed this by the usurper Shahrbaraz, though she was not his wife. Probably Boran was the widow of the great king Kavadh II and could have been involved as such in the assassination of Shahrbaraz.

The length of her reign in the sources varies between 16 months and two years. During their rule, an embassy was sent to the Eastern Roman Emperor Heraclius. Boran eventually died a violent death, perhaps by strangulation.
