Boreads

KALAIS (Greek Κάλαϊς ) and his twin brother Zetes ( Ζήτης ) are in Greek mythology, the sons of Boreas and his wife Oreithyia.

Both had purple wings that had grown them either to the first beard, or they were a gift from her father in order to equip them befitting for the ride with the Argonauts. They drove the Harpies, the harassed King Phineus. They pursued the monster with the help of their wings. However, since no one was a witness of this persecution, there are several versions about the outcome.

An oracle prophesied to them that they would die if they even did not reach a goal. Therefore, it is possible that they have crashed. Or they broke at the behest of the iris from their hunt. They then retreated to the island of Telos. There they were killed by Heracles. This was the revenge that they had urged the Argonauts to continue our journey, when Heracles had just removed in search of Hylas of the Argo. Then they buried Heracles on the island and erected a pillar to commemorate it on her grave. If her father Boreas complained about them, this column wavered in the north wind.
