Borek Wielkopolski

Borek Wielkopolski ( German Borek ) is a Polish city in the powiat Gostyński the Wielkopolska Region with about 2,500 inhabitants. It is located in the northwestern part of Kalisz highlands ( Wysoczyna Kaliska ) on the river Pogona.

History

Originally Zdzierz called settlement received town rights in 1392 according to Magdeburg law and was renamed in 1435 in Borek. Since the 15th century the town was a center of drapers and linen craft. 1653 allowed King John II Casimir regular fair.

After the Third Partition of Poland Borek fell from 1793 to 1807 temporarily to Prussia, but was then part of the Duchy of Warsaw Polish again.

The decisions of the Congress of Vienna Borek came to 1918 again to Prussia. Middle of the 19th century worked in the City of tzaddik Eliyahu Guttmacher.
