Boris Alterman

Boris Alterman (Russian Борис Альтерман; born May 4, 1970 in Kharkov, Soviet Union) is an Israeli chess Grandmaster.

Boris Alterman began playing chess at the age of five years and won at the age of 15 years, the Ukrainian Junior Championship for players under 18 years of age. In 1987, he shared with Gata Kamsky won first place at the Junior Championship of the Soviet Union. In 1991 he emigrated to Israel and earned the title of International Master, which a year later, the Grandmaster title followed.

From 1992 to 1998, in Manila in Elista he took part in Israel for four chess Olympiads, scoring 26.5 points from 42 games. He also played in 1992 and 1997 at the Team Championships and came up with 11.5 points from 16 matches. This 1997, he received a gold and a bronze medal in 1992. Alterman won, among others, the following tournaments: Munich 1992, Haifa 1993, Bad Homburg in 1996, Rishon LeZion in 1996 and Beijing in 1995 and 1997.

In Germany he was from 1997 to 1999 for various clubs, such as OSC Baden -Baden in the chess Bundesliga active. In the 1998/99 season he played for the SG Bochum 31 on the second board. In 1999 he collaborated with Garry Kasparov and supported him in his discharged via the Internet game Kasparov against the world. Since 2000, Alterman works as a consultant to the computer chess program with Junior and is also responsible for the opening book.

His best Elo rating of 2616 he reached 1999 with a current Elo rating of 2558, he is currently ranked 14 in Israel (April 2008).. It takes only rarely in tournaments and is mainly active as a chess trainer. In 2010 he received the title of FIDE Senior Trainer.
