Boris Kulayev

Boris Chadschumarowitsch Kulayev (Russian Борис Хаджумарович Кулаев; born July 18, 1929 in Ardon; † August 12, 2008 ) began in Ordzhonikidze (now Vladikavkaz ) in North Ossetia with the rings, where had developed after 1945 a wrestler center. With the help of trainer G. Termolajew and Ch Giojew he developed the early 1950s as one of the best Soviet freestyle wrestler in the heavyweight class.

Career

In 1954 he was a first international test by defeating the Swedish Olympic champion Karl -Erik Nilsson. Also in 1955 he succeeded at the World Festival of Youth in Warsaw with the victory over the Iranians Gholamreza Takhti a great success.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he stood against those same wrestlers in the final battle for the gold medal in the light heavyweight and lost time on points. 1957 Boris remained at the World Championships in Istanbul, although unbeaten, but rang against Ismet Atli from Turkey and against Petko Sirakow from Bulgaria "only" a draw and so came to 2nd place.

1959 Kulayev was again used at the World Championships in Tehran. After a victory over the French Maurice Jaquel and a draw against the Halle Dieter Rauchbach, who started for the all-German team, he lost again against Gholamreza Takhti and landed on the 6th place.

1960 ended his Kulayev Ringer career after he, though he was once again became Soviet champion that year, was not nominated for the Olympic Games in Rome.
