Boriss Cilevičs

Boris's Cilevics (Russian Борис Цилевич, Boris Zilewitsch; born March 26, 1956 in Daugavpils, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian engineer and politician. He is a member of the Latvian Parliament, the Saeima since 1998.

Biography

Cilevics was born the son of Russian Jewish immigrants from Leningrad in Daugavpils. After attending the local grammar school he studied mathematics and physics at the Latvian State University ( life insurers ). In 1981, he earned a doctorate in the field of mathematical and theoretical physics. In the 80 years he worked as an engineer, then in the laboratory for computer science of the Institute of Mathematics and computer science of life insurers.

From the beginning of the 90s, Cilevics involved in various social and political activities, he was also a member of the Latvian People's Front. He was active in journalism and in 1992 was a member of the Latvian Association of Journalists. From 1995 he was Director of the Centre for Social and Educational Research "Baltic Insight". In 1994, he was among the founders of Tautas Saskaņas partija (TSP ), for which he was elected in March 1997 in the Riga City Council.

1998 moved Cilevics on the list of Tautas Saskaņas partija in the Saeima, and is now a member of Parliament. In 2002, he stepped up to par for the list Cilvēka Tiesībām Vienotā Latvijā, 2006 Saskaņas Centrs. 2010 was again successfully ran for socialdemokratiska Partija " Saskaņa ". He took a seat on the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Human Rights and Social Affairs.

In a lawsuit challenging the abolition of restrictions on the use of the Russian language in the mass media, he represented the plaintiff before the Latvian Constitutional Court.

Since 1999 Cilevics is a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in the years 2005 to 2007 he was Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Minorities .. In the years 2003 and 2004, he served as observers and for a brief period as a parliamentarian Latvian representative in the European Parliament. .

Boris's Cilevics is married and has two children.
