Career

He was a pioneer in the NHL. Börje Salming was the first European to be in the NHL star. During his time Bobby Orr, Denis Potvin, Serge Savard and Larry Robinson were the superior defender, but Salming brought it to six appointments to the All Star team and was twice second in the election for the James Norris Trophy for the best defender. Him drew from his elegant technique during play and his hard shot. He played 16 years in Toronto, where he became an idol. In the season 1986/87 he was hit by a skate in the face and suffered a cut that required stitches with more than 200 stitches.

Three times he played for Sweden at the Canada Cup.

He was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996.
