Born is a town in the West Heath in the north of the district Borde in Saxony -Anhalt.

Geography

Born is located in the southwestern part of the Colbitz - Letzlinger Heide, the largest continuous heathland area in central Europe. The area is densely wooded and falls to the west ( to Ohretal ) gradually. The county town of Haldenleben is about 12, the state capital Magdeburg about 35 km away. The district of the district is bordered to the north by the Altmark Salzwedel.

History

Historically Born is connected to the spots Calvörde, this was part of an exclave of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg.

Economy and infrastructure

The region east of Born is used until today to a large extent by the army as a military training area in Altmark Letzlingen ( Army Combat Training Center ). Until the early 1990s, Soviet troops were stationed near Born, among others, the 448th Missile Brigade.

Born is located on the main road 71, which opens up the western heathland in north-south direction. For several decades, an east -west crossing of the Colbitz - Letzlinger Heath was at 40 kilometers impossible (of Uchtspringe to Haldensleben ).
