Bornay Mosque

The Burnajewskaja Mosque (Russian Бурнаевская мечеть ) and Mosque of the third cathedral ( Третья соборная ), called on Tatar Bornay Mosque ( Борнай мәчете ), located in the Russian city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan.

The mosque was built in 1872 on behalf of the merchant Mukhametsadik K. Burnajew ( 1826-1898 ), architect PI was Romanov. It was built at a location previously an old wooden mosque stood on the 1799, which burned down. In 1895 the minaret was added. The architecture of the brick mosque uses eclectic medieval Tatar and Russian elements in the style of the so-called National Romanticism.

In the late 1930s, the mosque was closed due to a decision of the Central Executive Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan, until 1994, she was again open to the faithful.
