Bornean ferret-badger

The Bornean sun roof ( Melogale everetti ) is a predatory species of the marten family ( Mustelidae ). He belongs to the genus of the sun badgers and is found only in Borneo.

Features

Bornean sun badgers reach a body length of 35-40 cm, the tail is 16-17 cm. The animals weigh about 1-2 kg and have a relatively lean physique. The muzzle is long, the head and the teeth relatively small. The coat color of the Borneo sun badger is oberseits largely dark brown, lighter on the belly against it. The head is adorned with a contrasting pattern of black on the one hand and on the other hand, white or yellow games. The front feet bear strong claws grave. Sometimes the Borneo -badger is classified as a form of Burma sun badger. The species is considered monotypic.

Distribution and habitat

The Bornean sun roof is limited to the north of the island of Borneo. There he lived in forests and grasslands 900-3000 m altitude. The existence conditions are unclear. The only documented sightings from the area of Kinabalu National Park.

Way of life

Over the life of the Borneo sun badger, little is known. The animals feed probably from insects, other invertebrates and small vertebrates and fruit.
