Borneo broadfin shark

The Borneo Breitflossenhai ( Lamiopsis tephrodes ) is a species of shark from the family of requiem sharks ( Carcharhinidae ). He comes in the western Pacific Ocean off to the north and east coast of Kalimantan and is mainly found in shallow sea area. The species was described in 1905 by the American zoologist Fowler, but later synonymized temminckii with the Lamiopsis described also in 1905. Recently, molecular biological analyzes showed, however, that it is but it must be two Lamiopsis species.

Appearance and characteristics

The Borneo Breitflossenhai reaches a body length of about 1.30 meters and is on the upper side of bright slate- gray color, the abdominal region is whitish. The transition from gray to whitish coloration on the head is suddenly and extends from the mouth end over the top edge of the eyes to the top of the first gill slit. The Borneo Breitflossenhai similar to Breitflossenhai in habit. Like this the two dorsal fins are almost equal. A Interdorsalkamm missing. The name derives from the broad-based pectoral fins. The head is broad, flattened and of medium length, a spray hole is missing. The first three gill slits are of equal size, the following two slightly smaller.
