Borough of Brentwood

Brentwood is an administrative district with the status of a borough in the county of Essex in England. To the west it borders Greater London.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the urban districts Brentwood and Chelmsford and part of the Epping Rural District and Ongar. He initially had the status of a District and was raised April 27, 1993 by a royal decree to Borough.

It is named after the town of Brentwood, which is also the administrative seat. Originally, however, the area was called " Burnt Wood" ( burnt wood ), according to the vast forest areas, where Köhler once manufactured charcoal.
