Borough of Brentwood
Brentwood is an administrative district with the status of a borough in the county of Essex in England. To the west it borders Greater London.
The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the urban districts Brentwood and Chelmsford and part of the Epping Rural District and Ongar. He initially had the status of a District and was raised April 27, 1993 by a royal decree to Borough.
It is named after the town of Brentwood, which is also the administrative seat. Originally, however, the area was called " Burnt Wood" ( burnt wood ), according to the vast forest areas, where Köhler once manufactured charcoal. Even today, the area of forests is covered, including Shenfield Common, Hartwood, Weald Country Park and Thorndon Country Park.
