Borradaile Island

Borradaile Iceland is a small island in the Southern Ocean. It belongs to the northern group of the Balleny Islands, which are about 300 kilometers from the Antarctic mainland.

History

Borradaile Iceland was discovered in February 1839 by John Balleny, who named it after the Kaufmann W. Borradaile. This was one of the shareholders of the English whaling company Enderby Brothers, which financed Ballenys Expedition of 1838/39.
