Borsigwerke (Berlin U-Bahn)

Metro Station Borsigwerke is a railway station on the U6 line of the Berlin U -Bahn. It is located at the intersection Berliner Straße / Wittestraße / Egellstraße in Berlin's Reinickendorf. The subway station was established on 31 May 1958, in connection with the opening track Kurt -Schumacher -Platz - put into operation Tegel. He is referred to in the station list of the BVG as Bk and is 921 meters from the Alt-Tegel Metro Station and 788 meters from the Holzhauser Straße Underground Station. The platform is nine meters wide and 110 meters long, it is located 6.8 meters below the road surface. Since the station has no lift and only stairs to exit the platform, this is counted as non-accessible. The train station is just like the space after the - now no longer serving its original purpose - named Borsig works.

History

After the Second World War, the Berlin administration was planning a massive expansion of the Berlin U -Bahn. One of the first new routes and the line C should (now part of the line U6) include that ended Coming to date of the Neukölln Grenzallee on the lake road. The first solemn pile driven for a distance lake road - Tegel took place on 26 October 1953, the extension should be implemented in two stages. First there was the lake road section - Kurt -Schumacher-Platz in construction, then followed the partly aboveground section Kurt -Schumacher-Platz - Tegel. The second section included, among other things, the Borsigwerke station.

The design of the stations of the entire route took over the Berlin architect Bruno Grimmek. It was based on this, developed by Grenander characteristic color system. So the station was bright yellow tiles that supports small-scale, white strap. The station name is with black letters mounted directly on the tiles. Since the train station is at one and a half times the depth of the BVG was the construction of two mezzanines. Both the southern entrance area leading to Egellstraße and Witte Road, as well as in the northern part is dominated by small tiles in the colors light blue, yellow, light gray and pink appearance. Grimmek was incidentally one of the two northern entrances directly into the factory building, a plain brick building, integrate - right next to it is still the representative gate. All other inputs are typical of the fifties equipped with simple lattice doors and railings. A similar configuration of the station is repeatedly found in Berlin. For example, the stations of the U9 between Spichernstraße and Leopoldsplatz emerged in the same period, so that they often have similarities, particularly remarkable this is, for example, at the Hansa Platz underground station ( line U9).

The then- mayor Willy Brandt opened the second section between Kurt -Schumacher-Platz, and Tegel officially on 31 May 1958. Tegel itself became a new recreation area enclosed within the city, so that the passenger numbers rose steadily. However, the Borsigwerke station used mainly the employees of neighboring companies such as Borsig.

In the course of the next few decades, relatively little changed at the underground station. Only the line designations changed, among other things, so went the line 6, but the pre-existing, direct line connection to Neukölln Britz and accounted for the reordering of the line numbers, a change to Mehring Damm was now necessary since 1966. Since 1984, the line is called to distinguish it from the S- Bahn line U6.

In the 1980s, Borsig built back his workshops, so that the built-in access to the station had to be abandoned. Since that time located next to the famous factory gate access as glass - metal construction. Between 1998 and 1999, the BVG renovated the station, because in the meantime already tiles had fallen off. Since then, the station in a new form, including the visually impaired with presents. However, to date, the original style of the station is included with filigree benches from the 1950s. January Gympel called the station even as one of the most genuine railway stations along the line. An equipment of the station with an elevator is provided due to the not-too- high importance of the station until 2016.
