Borut Mačkovšek ( born September 11, 1992 Koper) is a Slovenian handball player.

Borut Mačkovšek began in his home town of Izola with the handball matches. Later he went to the RK Celje, where he had the first missions in the first team, including in the EHF Champions League in 2009. In the season 2010/11 he moved to Maribor Branik, but returned a year later back to RK Celje. In the summer of 2013, the 2.03 meter tall backcourt players joined the German team TSV Hannover- Burgdorf, where he signed a three-year contract. In the spring of 2013 he dissolved his contract at short notice in Celje in to play until the change to Hanover at Al Sadd Doha. With this club he won top scorer, the Emir Cup. Beginning in February 2014, he moved to HC Dinamo Minsk. After the end of Minsk in February 2014 his crew withdrew with immediate effect for all competitions due to financial problems, Mačkovšek returned free transfer back to RK Celje. Just a week later he won again the Slovenian Cup.

Borut Mačkovšek is since 2011 in the Slovenian national team squad, with whom he took part in the 2012 European Championship in Serbia and at the 2013 World Cup in Spain.
