The Borzoi (Russian Русская псовая борзая transcribed Russkaya psowaja borsaja ) is one of the FCI ( No. 193, Gr. 10, sec 1) recognized Russian breed of dog.

Origin and History

The name comes from the Russian Borsy ( борзый to German "fast" ). Until about 1850, there was no uniform type; for today's Borzoi breeders selected from about 10 different beats.
