Borzya

Borsja (Russian Борзя ) is a city in the region, Transbaikalia (Russia) with 31 379 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located in the steppes of southern Transbaikalia, about 40 km from the Mongolian border and 70 km from the border with China away, about 400 km south-east of the regional capital of Chita, the river Borsja, a right tributary of the Onon.

The city is Borsja the region administratively subordinated directly and also the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

A settlement on the territory of the present town was founded in the 18th century. After the opening of the railway line 1899, made ​​around the station larger settlement developed into a transport and commercial center of the southeastern Transbaikalia. 1900, the settlement was officially the name Suvorovsky, after the Russian commander Alexander Suvorov awarded. However, this name is not naturalized in, and the place was called on as the station, after the river Borsja. 1950 was the place by this name of a town.

Southwest of the city, near the Mongolian border, the Daurian Nature Reserve is ( Biosphere Reserve ).

Economy and infrastructure

In addition to railroad shops there are in Borsja companies in the food industry, especially the meat industry based on the surrounding cattle breeding area.

Located northwest of the city, at Scherlowaja Gora, open pit Charanor Brown coal is mined, which is used for power generation in the OGK -3 belonging to the same thermal power plant at Yasnogorsk.

In Borsja is the headquarters of the 36th Army of the Russian land forces.
