Bosa of York

The Holy Bosa ( * before 678, † 706) was the fourth Bishop of York and served from 678 to 706

Bosa, whose date of birth is unknown, came from Northumbria and received his spiritual training at the monastery of Whitby by the Holy Hilda. He was 678 used as bishop of York, as the incumbent Wilfrid refused, the division of the diocese into four smaller dioceses by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Theodore of Tarsus, agree that thus counteract the formation of a northern English counter-power or of a second English archbishopric wanted. Although Wilfrid appealed to Pope Agathon, who agreed with him, but his decision by the new North of England bishops was not recognized, so that Wilfrid was exiled to Sussex. Bosa, however, recognized the separation of the dioceses of Hexham and Lindsey and served nine years before Wilfrid was reconciled with Archbishop Theodore 686 and was used as Bishop of York. Therefore, Bosa had to temporarily give up his office, but could again climb the 691 bishop's throne. Although Wilfrid fought on tenaciously to the York diocese, but was ultimately a Synodalentscheidung, which was confirmed by the Pope, satisfied, after which it remained the Diocese of Hexham and the supervision of the monasteries founded by him.

He was also after the death of Bosa on 706 not its successor, but it followed him John of Beverley in office.

Bosa was canonized later. His feast day was in the late 8th century, March 2, later this was laid on March 9 ..
