Bosbaan

The Bosbaan is a regatta course for rowing in the park Amsterdamse Bos in Amstelveen and Amsterdam. Its name comes from the location in the Amsterdamse Forest, and can be literally translated as about forest track into German.

History

The track was built in the 1930s as a project of job creation with five lanes in the Amsterdam city forest ( " Amsterdamse Bos " ) was built. On 12 June 1937 she was then opened by Queen Wilhelmina. 1954, the first rowing European Championships, where female rowers were allowed to participate, held on the Bosbaan. On the occasion of hosting the rowing championship in 1964 another line was added into the building. In the early 1970s, another railway was built, which was used as a substitute. Thus, the Bosbaan had six tracks for the race and another in reserve. In 1977, the first time was held a World Rowing Championship on the line. The German Democratic Republic won a total of 14 medals, including 11 gold medals, and became the most successful nation. 1990 and 1991 each have a Rowing World Cup was held. From 2001 to 2002 the entire regatta course from the city of Amsterdam and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Roeibond was renovated and expanded. Now you have eight lanes, new boathouses, new launch facilities and a new timing system. 2005 and 2011, the rowing U23 World Championships and World Cup 2007 were held. In addition, we applied for the 44th World Rowing Championships 2014. FISA decided that the Bosbaan will host the World Rowing Championship 2014. From 24 to 31 August 2014, the world champion will be determined in 27 boat classes.

Development and use of

The track is 2300 meters long and 118 meters wide. At the lowest point, it is 2.2 meters deep. It is equipped with a system Albano on all eight paths.

The Koninklijke Nederlandse Roeibond has a training center at the track. In addition, the route is still used by the Free University of Amsterdam.

The entire system with joggers, dragon boaters and anglers is popular.
