Bosnian Pot

Bosanski Lonac (Eng. " Bosnian pot " ) is a stew and is one of the national dishes of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are many types, the Bosanski Lonac to prepare, but the main ingredients of each recipe are mostly the same: meat and various vegetables. This dish has been on the tables of the rich and poor already hundreds of years. The rich used more meat and more expensive ingredients, while the poor have used what they have just had on hand (mostly various vegetables and spices).

The typical components of a Bosanski Lonac are: beef, lamb, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, parsley, garlic and whole peppercorns.

The main concept of Bosanski Lonac is, meat and vegetables in layers in a pot insert ( a layer of meat, then a layer of vegetables, the layers alternate, until the pot is full), and then with one or two deciliters water or white wine replenish. The ingredients are added in large pieces into the pot. Originally Bosanski Lonac was cooked in a ceramic pot, which was then placed into a fire, but since both are present in almost any household today, a normal deep pot and a normal oven is in use. Since the meat and vegetable pieces are cut rather large, it takes about four hours, until the dish is ready.
