Boss (TV series)

Boss is an American political drama series with Emmy Award winner Kelsey Grammer in the title role, designed by Farhad Safinia. It was produced from 2011 to 2012 by Lionsgate Television in association with Grammer 's own production company Grammnet Productions for the U.S. cable channel Starz. It is about the mayor of the city of Chicago, in which a degenerative nerve disease has recently been diagnosed. The first broadcast in the U.S. took place on 21 October 2011 by Starz.

Action

The series follows the life of Chicago Mayor Tom Kane, was in the Lewy body dementia, a degenerative nerve disease, diagnosed. Because he wants to remain in office despite the illness, he conceals it. Only his doctor, Dr. Ella Harris, knows about it. The deception works because people are busy around him too much with their own lives. Kane's marriage to his wife Meredith is nothing but a means to an end. His closest advisors, Kitty O'Neill and Ezra Stone start, though suspecting that something is wrong with the Mayor but respect him too much to ask questions. However, Finance Minister Ben Zajac deal especially his own political ambitions, the next Governor of Illinois to become.

Production and broadcasting

Farhad Safinia developed the end of 2010 with creative help of Kelsey Grammer and his production company Grammnet Productions, the series idea to boss. In November 2010, the screenplay various cable stations was presented, after which there was a fierce bidding competition. This bidding contest could finally decide Starz for themselves and were eight episodes of the series in order. Thus, the tradition was at Starz, series to order now without producing before a pilot episode, continued. The casting for the series began in November 2010 with the commitment of Grammer as Mayor Tom Kane. Next, Connie Nielsen as Kane's wife Meredith Kane came to the series. It was followed by the appointment of Jeff Hephner for the character of Ben Zajac as finance minister of Illinois. The last main characters were cast as Hannah Ware Tom Kane's estranged daughter Emma, and Kathleen Robertson and Martin Donovan as Kane's closest advisors Kitty O'Neill and Ezra Stone. The shooting of the first season began in late April in and around Chicago and end of July 2011 were completed.

The broadcast of the first eight-part season took place until December 9, 2011 of October 21. The ratings of the first season remained there almost continuously under half a million spectators. Only the series premiere and the season finale was seen by 660 and 510 thousand spectators. Even before the start of series Boss has been renewed for a second season, which began broadcasting on 17 August and ended on October 19, 2012. Due to the lower ratings during the second season of Starz that series announced in November 2012. However, broadcasters and production studio jointly explore the possibility of bringing the open plot lines in a two- hour TV film to completion.

The German pay-TV broadcaster FOX radiated from the two seasons of Boss between 18 March and 22 July 2013.

At the Golden Globe Awards 2012, the series was for Best Series - Drama Nominated - Drama and starring Kelsey Grammer as the best series protagonists. While the former lost homeland, Grammer could win the prize.
