Botanical Garden of Mérida

The Botanical Garden of Mérida is a botanical garden in the city of Mérida in Venezuela.

It lies in the northern part of the city of Mérida, between the rivers Albarregas and Mucujún and was founded in 1991 from the Universidad de los Andes. It serves the preservation of animal and plant life and for research. For the audience it was opened on December 8, 2002.

The botanical garden has a surface of 44 hectares, which were donated by the University for its development. He was subdivided according to the type of plants that can be found there in zones most of the area is occupied by a forest of native pines. The most important collection of botanical garden is in the bromeliads that are present in more than 100 species and 600 individuals. It is the largest collection of bromeliads in South America.
