Botanischer Garten der Technischen Universität Dresden

The Botanical Garden Dresden was founded in 1820 by Heinrich Gottlieb Ludwig Reichenbach, the facility at the current location was opened in 1893 and is since 1949 one of the central institutions of the Technical University of Dresden. It is home to some 10,000 plant species.

Location

The Botanical Garden is located in the northwest corner of the Great Garden, next to the Transparent VW Factory at the Stübelallee. He is not far from the historical city center and the bus stops Strasbourg court or Comeniusplatz comfortable with several tram and bus lines to reach

Large areas of open land area and the greenhouses of the Botanical Garden are classified according to phytogeographical point of view since Carl Oscar Drude ( 1852-1933 ). Greenhouses

Three greenhouses provide an insight into the flora of tropical and subtropical areas. Some 3,000 plant species are housed in the greenhouses. With the five growing houses the greenhouse area is about 1,000 square meters. For the visitor are available three individually standing greenhouses: The America - tropical house is home to at the rear of plant species from the rainforests of the neotropics, and in Victoria regia area potted plants are housed during the winter months. The Great Tropical House ( Paläotropis ) is divided into an area with the tropical flora of Asia and Africa as well as an aquarium department with water plants. The succulent house is at the entrance of orchids and carnivorous plants, the visitor then arrives at the plant species of the arid areas of Africa and America.
