Both Sides

Both Sides ( Engl.: "both sides " ) is the fifth studio album by British singer Phil Collins. He was released in November 1993. It sold a total of at least ten million times, reached triple platinum in Germany, double platinum in the UK and platinum in the United States.

Background

Both Sides was the only one of his albums all by Phil Collins produced itself, all the instruments by himself. The recordings took place over a period of six weeks in his own studio at home instead, which is also the sound of the album is different from the others something. Only sound engineer Paul Gomershall, who was involved in the previously released live album, Serious Hits Live and assistant Mark Robinson, involved in We Can not Dance, helped him. The songs were somewhat edgy, unpolished. In the booklet the meaning of the song is explained. The lyrics express Collins ' personal feelings and personal problems, but there are also political issues broached. He had 17 songs available, but rejected those who did not conform to that of the " underlying mood " of the album.

Collins said in a Playboy interview with Peter Jebsen of November 1993:

"Of course I would have people like Eric Clapton can fetch that would have certainly contributed beautiful passages. But the songs on this LP are advised extremely personal; and I wanted to avoid the risk that the other is watered down the original feeling of participation. "
