Bluestem

The Bluestem ( Bothriochloa ischaemum ) is a plant of the family Gramineae ( Poaceae ). There are also the names of common or ordinary Bluestem. The term chicken foot is occupied for Switzerland. As a synonym of the scientific name is also the name Andropogon ischaemum.

Features

The leaves of grass beard are gray-green, the ligule are designed as hair. The perennial plant reaches heights from 0.15 to 0.6 meters. She is a Hemikryptophyt. The ears of the plant are light purple.

Occurrence

The Bluestem grows on dry and semi-dry grasslands on lückigem and base hold. It is found in Eurasia.

In Germany it is represented only sporadically in the south. The northern limit of distribution in Germany runs from the Bonn area to Saxony -Anhalt with the areas around Halberstadt, Staßfurt and Halle ( Saale). In Saxony it is found in the area of Dresden, Meissen and Bautzen. In mountainous areas of the region is lacking.
