The Bothriuridae are a family of scorpions ( Scorpiones ), with about 120 species in 14 genera.

Features

Compared to other scorpions, the Bothriuridae distinguished mainly by the atypical form of the breastplate. This does not consist of a five -sided board but of two transverse bars, and is much wider than long.

Distribution and habitat

The representatives of the Bothriuridae are common in temperate and tropical regions in South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. Species of the genus Cercophonius were even found in the Himalayas. They live under rocks and in crevices as well as in small, partially deep to 40 inches, caves.
