Bottle garden

A bottle garden is a small ecosystem in a bottle or similar container glass, consisting of a substrate, plants, microorganisms, air and water.

A bottle garden offers, similar to a terrarium, a humid tropical climate and can accommodate about particularly beautiful, exotic plants. Suitable examples are bromeliads, mosses, ferns, carnivorous plants and various subtropical and tropical species such as Calanthen or other orchids. The plants need to be healthy and strong and may not be infested with pests. It is advantageous to drainage, for example, expanded clay, to prevent rotting roots.

If the containers are hermetically sealed is to make sure that not too much water was poured. The walls of the vessel should not heavily shod.

The container is placed on a bright but shady and not too warm place such as on a north-facing window. It then has for years not be poured or fertilized ( in most plants, this is never needed ). As a miniature version of the Earth's ecosystem, it works just like his role model: The water evaporates and precipitates again. During the day, the plant consumes carbon dioxide in photosynthesis, oxygen at night, however.
