Bottle sling

The Bootsmannsmaatenknoten, also called pitcher node, is used to fix and transport of bottles.

The Ashley Book of knots, the author writes Clifford Ashley, that the node is drawn the first time in 1795 by Roding. The American cowboys used it as Ersatzzaumzeug for horses. The middle bays were put into the mouth, the outer covered the mouth, the long bay served as a halter and the two loose ends of the reins.

Another application of the node is the cooling of bottled beverages in water.
