Bouafles

Bouafles is a commune with 661 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the arrondissement Les Andelys and the Canton of Les Andelys.

Geography

Bouafles lies on the western edge of the Vexin normand on the right bank of the Seine, 79 kilometers north- west of Paris, 15 kilometers northwest of Vernon and 4.4 kilometers southwest of the cantonal and district municipal seat, Les Andelys, between the neighboring communities Tosny the northwest, Vézillon in the Northeast and Courcelles -sur -Seine in the southwest. In the southeast of the village, the Forêt des Andelys. The hamlet of Les Mousseaux belongs to the municipality.

History

The Roman road from Paris ( Lutetia ) to Rouen ( Rotomagus ) ran through Bouafles. Above the valley of the Seine in 1830 traces of settlement and coins from the Gallo -Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD) were found. The traces of settlement it was tegulae, millstones and foundations of houses. Some coins could be assigned to the reign of Claudius Gothicus ( 268-270 ) and Constantine ( 306-337 ).
