Boundary Pass

Geographical location

The Boundary Pass is a only about 23 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide waterway of the Pacific Ocean in the southwestern part of British Columbia, which the Southern Gulf Islands and the San Juan Islands separates. The course of the road forms the border between Canada and the United States.

At the same time this is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the North American west coast, as it is the main access route to the Port of Vancouver and in the Strait of Georgia.

Definition

USGS defined as described in the following the course or the limits of the boundary through. The northern border is formed by a line from East Point on Saturna Iceland to Alden Point on Patos Iceland. Furthermore, the southwestern limit results from a line from Point Fairfax on Moresby Iceland to Turn Point on Stuart Iceland. In the Northwest Boundary Pass is limited by several points on the islands Saturna and Pender Iceland Iceland and Iceland Moresby. To the southeast, their limitation is represented by points on Patos Iceland and Iceland Waldron and Stuart Iceland.

By this definition, the Boundary Pass is at its northern end directly into the Strait of Georgia. At the southern end it is not directly, but via the Haro Strait with the Juan de Fuca Strait.

In various other definitions pass the boundary is included in the description of the Haro Strait.

History

1846 was the so-called Oregon Treaty the border between the U.S. and the UK, along the 49th parallel, in the middle of the channel which separates the continent from Vancouver Iceland, and in the middle of the Juan de Fuca Strait to the Pacific Ocean set. Through the many located there islands there are two waterways that run through the middle of the channel, on the one hand the Haro Strait, with its prefixing in the Boundary Pass, west of the San Juan Islands and the second Rosario Strait along the east side of the island group. To the exact course of the border broke a 1859 "war" between Britain and the United States of America, the pigs conflict.

Climate

The climate and water temperatures in the Boundary Pass generally correspond to that of the surrounding area the road from Georgia, the Juan de Fuca Strait and Rosario Strait. According to the Köppen climate classification, the climate is Mediterranean ( Csb ).
