Bourg-lès-Valence

Bourg- lès -Valence is a commune in the Drôme department in the Rhône -Alpes. The residents of the community are called Bourcains.

Geography

Bourg- lès- Valence is located immediately north of Valence, the capital of the Drome region. The settlement area of Valence is closely conjoined with that of Bourg -lès -Valence and other suburban communities. This metropolitan area has a total of about 120,000 inhabitants. To the west borders the municipality of Bourg- lès -Valence on the Rhône. On the other side of the river lies the Ardèche.

History

The medieval castle Confolens fell at the confluence of the Isère (river) and the Rhône in the years 1960/65 land-use planning measures for the victims who were in connection with the construction of a hydroelectric power plant.

Population Development

With 19,013 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Bourg- lès -Valence is one of the largest municipalities in the department of Drôme. In 1962, the number of inhabitants stood at 10,856, since the population continues to rise. Strong growth, especially in the 1970s was recorded.

Attractions

  • The former, managed by canons parish church of St-Pierre de Bourg- lès -Valence was one of the first churches of Valentinois. The building served the bishops as grave lay, was destroyed during the Wars of Religion in 1597, rebuilt several times and was told in the 19th and 20th centuries comprehensive changes.
  • The Château du Valentin called Bishop's Palace dates back to 1668.
  • Château de Champrousset
  • The former munitions factory Cartoucherie houses under the name Cour des Images is a center for animation film production studios and various institutions in this sector.
